Wilson expands its advisory staff for the 2023 season

13 January 2023

Fresh faces join Major winners & established Tour champions for 2023 season

Wilson Golf, the brand with more Major wins (62) with its irons than any other, has expanded its advisory staff for the 2023 season with new additions on both the DP World Tour and PGA Tour joining Major winners and multiple champions putting Wilson clubs and balls into play across the globe this season.

The newest additions to the European roster include Germany’s Alexander Knappe, who picked up two Challenge Tour victories in 2022 at the Dimension Data Pro-Am and the B-NL Challenge Trophy by Hulencourt. Following his successful year Knappe is confident about what the new season can bring with Wilson. He said “I’m very excited to be part of the Wilson Team. From testing a variety of irons, the Staff Model blades were the best out there for me at the moment. I am looking forward to the season ahead.”

Joining Knappe is fellow German, Marc Hammer, who enjoyed a successful 2022 Challenge Tour season that saw him win his first Challenge Tour event at the Euram Bank Open in Austria. In doing so, Hammer made history by becoming the first player to ever win two Official World Golf Ranking events in two different countries in the same week, following his victory at the Pro Golf Tour’s Weihenstephan Open at Golfanlage Holledau in Germany.

Knappe and Hammer join a team of Wilson players headlined by four-time Major winner and former European Ryder Cup Captain Padraig Harrington, who will be playing Wilson clubs for his 25th consecutive year, marking one of the longest ever brand relationships in sport. Harrington enjoyed a stellar 2022 campaign that saw him win four times on the PGA Tour Champions, that included his first Senior Major, coming at the U.S. Senior Open Championship.

Winner of the Open Championship in 1999, Paul Lawrie will continue his long held relationship with Wilson, playing the brand’s irons, woods, wedges and 4-piece Urethane Staff Model ball, which he will use on the PGA Champions and Legends Tours.

The increased depth of the Wilson Advisory Staff on the DP World Tour sees eight other players signed to multi-year deals. They include 2018 Nordea Masters Champion Paul Waring who first signed with Wilson in 2015. Waring concluded 2022 with four top-10 finishes on the DP World Tour including finishing second at both the Mallorca Golf Open and the Kazoo Classic.

DP Tour winners Joakim Lagergren of Sweden and David Law from Scotland have also renewed their contracts. Lagergren had a strong finish to the 2022 season that saw him narrowly miss out on victory at the Andalucia Masters with a second place finish, with his good form continuing into the season ending DP World Tour Championship where he finished 12th. Law also concluded his season with a top 20 finish at the Championship after a solid year that saw him produce three top-10 finishes across Asia and Europe. France’s Benjamin Hebert has also renewed his contract and will be using the new Dynapower driver on Tour this season.

After signing with Wilson in 2022, Hurly Long enjoyed an excellent first season with the brand recording six top-10 finishes on the DP World Tour as well as back to back top-10s on the PGA Tour, coming at the Barbasol Championship (4th) and the Barracuda Championship (7th).

Craig Howie, Jack Senior and Andrew Wilson will also be playing Wilson clubs in 2023, carried in the distinctive Wilson red Tour bag, alongside Finland’s Sanna Nuutinen who will be playing with Wilson clubs on the Ladies European Tour.

On the other side of the Atlantic, Kevin Kisner and Trey Mullinax are the newest signings to join  a strong lineup of PGA Tour players to represent Wilson. Kevin Kisner will be playing the brand new Dynapower driver and 3-wood as he looks to continue his fine form after his second best season on the PGA Tour, which also saw him represent the United States Presidents Cup team that won its ninth-straight title and 12th overall.

Joining both Kisner and Mullinax on the PGA Tour will be John Augenstein, Kevin Chappell, Quade Cummins, Brendan Steele, Kevin Streelman, Martin Trainer and Kevin Tway, with Sophia Schubert representing the brand on the LPGA Tour.

“We’re very excited about the strength and depth of our Advisory Staff this year,” said Doug Wright, Global Commercial Director of Wilson Golf. “We have made excellent additions to what was already a strong lineup and we can’t wait to work with this group of players towards achieving their goals for the season ahead. Our Staff Model range has already proven its pedigree on Tour and with the introduction of Dynapower we’re able to offer players the best ever range of Tour quality clubs from driver through the bag to putter, he added.”
