Brand enables stockists to drive sell-through as golfers donate unwanted shoes to budding African players
Italian fashion brand Duca del Cosma is recycling the innovative trade-in promotion it ran last year to help retail stockists drive more sales of its premium golf shoes and give British golfers the chance to grow the game by donating unwanted pairs to budding players in Africa.
Working in partnership with FedEx, the Recyclatex Group and Golf RSA in South Africa, Duca will be promoting a £25 discount on a new pair of handcrafted men’s and women’s styles designed and made in Europe, in exchange for an old pair of any make of golf shoes that might currently go to landfill or block potential wardrobe space.
Under the upgraded Trade-in, FedEx will arrange for collection of the donated shoes from Pro Shops; Recyclatex will handle recycling of unsuitable pairs; and the Golf Federation in South Africa will distribute the refurbished shoes to budding golfers with limited access to high quality equipment.
The Great Duca Trade-in will run from 1st September to 19th January 2024 and feature an in-store eco-friendly cardboard bin designed to neatly store discarded shoes and act as a focal point for the promotion. It will also serve as a convenient means of collecting the second-hand shoes at the end of the promotion.
“Last year’s promotion was the first of its kind in the golf industry to link a product trade-in with a guarantee that they’ll be put to good use or recycled responsibly, and it proved to be popular with both stockists and consumers who want to help disadvantaged players enjoy the game,” said Simon Dowell, Managing Director of Duca del Cosma in the UK & Ireland. “To boost more sales over the forthcoming Autumn and Winter period, we’ve added elements designed to make it easier for golfers to donate unwanted shoes and retailers to benefit from extra sales, including a prize incentive for the top three stockists over the period of the promotion and further prizes for consumers who help to increase awareness via social media.”
Retailers are being invited to register their participation for the promotion at which point Duca will provide them with details of the promotional materials that include A4 and A3 posters, web banners and PDF emailer for circulation to customer mailing lists. Duca will be publicising the promotion through consumer golf publications and social media channels with the hashtag: #thegreatducatradein.
