Former Open Champions Padraig Harrington and Paul Lawrie lead the list of Wilson Staff players competing at the 146th staging of golf’s oldest Major at Royal Birkdale next week, all using the brand’s signature FG Tour V6 irons.
Harrington, who won the Claret Jug the last time The Open was played at the venue in 2008, returns to the Southport coast with good memories having hit one of the most memorable shots in Open history on his way to victory.
In howling conditions during the final round, a 5-wood from 249-yards on the 17th hole finished three feet away. A tap in eagle followed birdies on the 13th and 15th to record a final round 69 to retain the title he won at Carnoustie a year before. (more…)
SuperStroke staff player Sergio Garcia took a grip of his first ever Major title with the help of his S-Tech club and 1.0P prototype putter grips.
The nine-time PGA Tour winner was trailing Ryder Cup team-mate Justin Rose with just four holes left in the 2017 Masters, but produced a stunning display of approach shots to draw level, including scoring his first ever eagle at Augusta National on the par-5 15th.
And the Spaniard rolled in a clutch birdie putt with his striking blue and yellow 1.0P prototype putter grip on the first playoff hole to claim his first Major title at the 74th attempt. (more…)

ClubstoHire.com, the world’s leading golf club rental business, has signed a multi-year agreement with England’s David Howell for the European Tour star and former Ryder Cup player to act as a global brand ambassador.
Howell, who appears as a regular pundit on Sky Sports’ televised golf coverage and contributes to popular golfing publications, will promote the club rental brand across European Tour events and social media platforms. Less than a week after putting the new Wilson Staff FG Tour V6 forged irons in his bag, three-time Major winner Padraig Harrington won his 15th European Tour title at the Portugal Masters at the Oceanico Victoria Clube de Golf on Sunday with a masterclass of accurate approach play and solid putting.
The popular Irishman, who has played Wilson Staff clubs since 1998 in one of golf’s longest partnerships, birdied six holes in a bogey-free final round 65 to finish on -23 and win by a shot from defending champion Andy Sullivan. It was his first victory on the European Tour since 2008 and could move him back into the top 100 of the Official World Golf Rankings.
Harrington, who is renowned for his attention to detail when choosing equipment, placed the new V6 irons in his bag during a practice round earlier this week and was immediately convinced that they would deliver a good score in tournament play. (more…)
